Mobile Robots
Alice
Autonomous System Labs' Alice is the cheapest and smallest intellig
ent
mobile robot. Future developments for Alice include multi
robot cooperation and communication, as well as control over the internet.
Minerva
Minerva is not a working interface, though this site offers an overview
of the Carnegie Mellon robotic tourguide project. On-line from August
25 to September 5, 1998, Minerva, like Rhino, guided tours through
the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Every third
tour was offered to internet users who voted on which tour to take.
This site provides a clue of what the actual interface was like.
Red Rover
This site is a demonstration project for the IBM Reutilization Warehouse
in Endicott, NY. The viewing project promises to enable interested
customers to view warehouse products before bidding. A JAVA friendly
browser and password will be required once the project is in operation.
Rita
Rita (a Pioneer 1), The University of Birmingham's learning robot uses
Riccardo Poli and Axel Großmann's research with algorithmic learning
mechanisms. Rita's previous knowledge serves as a ground
for new knowledge, and through the performance of related tasks, she learns
to navigate her controlled environment and use her gripper. The team is
currently researching constructive neural networks which will adapt to
the many tasks faced. The web interface was enacted to promote
robot learning. Rita is usually on-line 2 to 4 pm GMT on weekdays
with odd-numbered dates (i.e., alternating weeks of M-W-F and T-Th).
